VIRTUAL FUNDRAISER FOR PHOENIX CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL

In response to COVID-19, Artist Shanna Israel and Chef Chris Bianco teamed up to create a FOOD ART charity fundraiser, which benefits the frontline workers and children at Phoenix Children’s Hospital.

Shanna took ingredients that Chef Chris uses on a daily basis and transformed them into a mixed-media piece of one-of-a-kind art. The ingredients included garlic skins, Bianco tomato cans, fresh rosemary, and more.

The unique piece was created in support of the Hardship Fund at the hospital. The fund helps families of patients cover many different expenses, so that they can focus on their treatments and care. 100% of the funds generated by the piece are donated to the Hardship Fund.

About Chris Bianco

Chef Chris Bianco won the James Beard Award for Best Chef Southwest in 2003 and was the first pizzaiolo to receive the honor. Bianco helped spawn a generation of independent and artisanal pizzerias as he lent his advice, wisdom, and food philosophies to dozens of fellow chefs and restaurateurs. His pies were named best in the country by Ed Levine in his book Pizza: A Slice of Heaven. Jeffrey Steingarten of Vogue deemed them the best in the world as well.

Samba With A Purpose: Elisabeth Kübler-Ross Foundation

Micheline Etkin (Ambassador for EKR) and I came together in our creative way and paired art + samba together to celebrate life and raise awareness/money to create the FIRST Elisabeth Kubler-Ross children’s hospice center in Brazil. I transformed two children’s stories (Lily + Corrine) into 3D art using some of their favorite themes (princesses, sparkles, starfish etc.), as well as items from their personal life. I included Lily’s medical syringes that she uses to take her medication and Corrinne’s personal bow that raises awareness for her condition CMV. We all came together to show the beauty of ones story through art. The goal was to raise money and have a portion of the art piece proceeds donated to the EKR Foundation. Arizona's Fox 10 Phoenix was there to capture the process.

About EKR Foundation:

The Elisabeth Kübler-Ross Foundation is 501(c)(3) non-profit organization inspired by the life of psychiatrist, humanitarian and hospice pioneer, Dr. Elisabeth Kübler-Ross. Though Elisabeth is often described as the “creator of the Five Stages” she often referred to herself as the “life and living lady”. Many thousands of researchers, institutions, professionals, and grieving individuals have reached out to the Elisabeth Kübler-Ross Foundation since its inception in 2005. Many are looking for guidance and information as they look for help either for themselves or for those they serve.
